I am Zwaanan.
Being Zwaanan has never depended on where your family came from. It depends on whether you stayed. Twenty-two millennia of arrivals have made a people who are mostly Black African, entirely various and completely certain of who they are.
They are students, traders, ferrymen, goldsmiths, singers, nurses, hydrologists, tailors, grandmothers, guards, creators and children who watch the Royal Guard from the step below the wall. They live in an ancient kingdom and in the present at the same time, and see no contradiction in it.
Ask any of them where they are from and they will give you the name of a city. Ask them what they are and they will give you the same three words. I am Zwaanan.
